For many thirty-somethings, fond childhood memories centre around toys and collectables of favourite movie and TV show themes. Hours of joy were had with action figures of E.T., Storm Troopers, Spock & Kirk, Klingons, Gobots, and He-Man, just to name a few, and that's only the boys! Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Bright, and the Care Bears provided endless entertainment for the girls. These were sagas that not only played out on television sets and living room floors, but also after school, when it was time to slip out of the school uniform and pick out a play outfit. My buddies and I were Decepticons, with Soundwave, Megatron, and Rampage splashed across our chests on our favourite t shirts.

To put it mildly, t shirt printing was a huge factor in the marketing of these timeless tales that endured on to the current generation and important in after school play, identifying character and friend affiliations. Nostalgia, as well as the revival of these classics has lead to an impressive market in the sales of originals as well as limited reprintings. A recent “trip” to eBay left me reeling!
